       ATTORNEY GENERAL TO JOIN VICE PRESIDENT TO ANNOUNCE
               "GET TOUGH. HELP FAMILIES" CAMPAIGN
                                 
     WASHINGTON, D.C. --  Attorney General Janet Reno will join
Vice President Gore, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development
Andrew Cuomo, U.S. Attorneys, Assistant U.S. Attorneys, several
Mayors and others to announce the initiation of the
Administration's "Get Tough. Help Families" Campaign.

                 2 P.M., Thursday, June 5, 1997

                17th and Pennsylvania Avenues, NW

     The announcement is part of a comprehensive enforcement and
prevention package designed to clear crime and drugs away from
public housing and to provide communities with the tools they
need to make their neighborhoods safe for children. 

     U.S. Attorneys and Assistant U.S. Attorneys from the
following cities will be in attendance: Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL;
D.C.; Detroit, MI; Gary, IN; Greensboro, NC; Kansas City,
Memphis, TN; Newark, NJ; New Orleans, LA; Philadelphia, PA; San
Francisco.     


NOTE:  Media without White House Credentials wishing to cover the
