           PRESIDENT CLINTON, ATTORNEY GENERAL RENO, 
AND HUD SECRETARY CUOMO TO SPEAK AT JUSTICE DEPARTMENT'S "CURBING
                   YOUTH VIOLENCE" CONFERENCE

     WASHINGTON, DC -- As the Congress prepares to take up
juvenile crime legislation, President Clinton, Attorney General
Reno, and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Andrew Cuomo
will address the issue of youth violence at a day-long juvenile
justice conference at the Georgetown University Conference Center
on Wednesday, June 11, 1997.  The conference will focus on
programs that work to reduce juvenile violence, with an emphasis
on the role of communities working together to combat juvenile
crime.  Some of the nation's leading experts in the field of
juvenile crime will discuss various enforcement, intervention and
prevention programs that successfully target gangs, guns, drugs,
and crime.      

WHAT:     "Curbing Youth Violence" Conference

WHO:      A list of panel presenters is attached.  A room
          adjacent to the Ballroom has been reserved for one-on-
          one interviews with panel members. (Please note that
          panel presenters will not be available for interviews
          during their presentation or during President Clinton's
          attendance at the conference.)          

WHEN:     Wednesday, June 11, 1997, 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
          Attorney General Reno will speak at 9:00 a.m.
          President Clinton will speak at 11:50 a.m. 
          Secretary Cuomo will speak at 4:15 p.m.

The entire day is open to print and electronic media.  

Media are requested to register in advance.  Credentials can
obtained by faxing name, date of birth and social security number

table on Wednesday morning.   

Press who need to pre-set equipment may do so from 7 to 8 a.m. 
There will no access to the room from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.
