EVENT IS PRECURSOR TO UPCOMING SUMMIT IN CHILE
WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Attorney General Janet Reno, Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, and Counselor to President Clinton and Special Envoy to the Americas Thomas F. "Mack" McLarty will speak this afternoon at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) on judicial reform in Latin America.
The IDB helps develop Latin American countries. This week it is training Latin American judicial officials on best practices in law enforcement. The training session culminates with remarks from Reno, Breyer, and McLarty.
IDB's efforts and today's ceremony will serve as a precursor to April's Summit of the Americas in Chile, at which judicial reform is expected to be a significant topic of discussion. This afternoon Reno is expected to discuss Justice Department support for the development and implementation of initiatives to improve justice systems in Latin America and the Caribbean.
