STATEMENT OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today I met with representatives of groups concerned about abortion clinic violence. I reiterated our commitment to track down whoever is responsible for the murder of Dr. Barnett Slepian.
We are not going to rest until justice is done. This murder was intolerable. I am proud that so many people across America have come together to express their outrage.
Since 1994, when President Clinton signed the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, we have brought 27 criminal actions and 17 civil suits against those who have tried to deny women one of their most basic constitutional rights sometimes through violence.
I expressed our deep concern that this and other attacks threaten the access of women everywhere to abortion and other health services. I pledged to them, and to women and health service providers everywhere, that federal law enforcement will continue its vigorous defense of constitutionally protected rights to provide and obtain reproductive health services.
