BROWNING FERRIS INC. SENTENCING TODAY
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- There will be a sentencing hearing today in the criminal prosecution of United States v. Browning Ferris Inc. in Washington, D.C., before U.S. District Judge Stanley Sporkin. BFI plead guilty to having failed to notify the District of Columbia for discharging contaminated wastewater from its medical waste facility into Washington, D.C.'s sewer systems on June 1, 1998. Under the terms of the plea agreement, the government and BFI recommended that BFI be sentenced to a $1.5 million criminal fine. This and other recommendations in the plea agreement are subject to court approval at sentencing.
