STATEMENT OF THE PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICE Attorney General Janet Reno was brought to Georgetown University Medical Center this morning after feeling nauseous and fainting for a few seconds at a Maryland church service.
Reno is awake, alert, talking and in good condition, according to Dr. Paul Katz, the hospital's Chief Operating Officer. Katz said her vital signs -- heart rhythm, EKG, heart rate, respiration and blood pressure -- are good. Katz indicated that Reno will remain in the hospital overnight for observation.
Reno said this afternoon that she was feeling fine, and that she looked forward to returning to work. She talked to members of her family and staff, and spent part of the afternoon reading work materials. She has maintained her usual exercise routine in the past few weeks, including an hour-long hike yesterday in Virginia.
While standing during a morning service at the Full Gospel AME Church in Clinton, Maryland, the Attorney General felt ill and sat down. She then fainted for a few seconds, revived immediately and went to another room, where she was examined by Dr. Rodney Ellis, a Georgetown University Medical Center physician and member of the church's congregation. At the recommendation of Dr. Ellis, Reno was taken to Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
