ATTORNEY GENERAL JANET RENO AND ACTING ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL BILL LANN LEE TO PARTICIPATE IN WORKSHOPS ON MENTAL HEALTH
Attorney General Janet Reno and Acting Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Bill Lann Lee will participate in the White House Conference on Mental Health on Monday, June 7th. They will each chair workshops at Howard University from 10:30 a.m.-11:45a.m., 2400 6th Street, N.W. in Washington, D.C.

Attorney General Janet Reno will co-chair with Rep. Ted Strickland of Ohio a workshop on mental health and the criminal justice system. Topics will include the relationship between violence and mental disorder; how the criminal justice system working with mental health experts can improve its response to persons with mental illness; the needs of juvenile offenders; and how to better diagnose and treat mental health problems early on. Experts from the Departments of Justice, Defense, and Education will participate, along with representatives from local government.

Bill Lann Lee will co-chair with Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut a workshop on individual rights and promoting fairness and respecting privacy in mental health service delivery. Experts from the Department of Health and Human Services, Defense, and Veterans Affairs will participate.
