SERVICES TO CO-HOST NATIONAL SUMMIT ON CHILDREN EXPOSED TO
VIOLENCEE
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Beginning today, the Department of Justice and the Department
of Health and Human Services will co-host a three-day National Summit on Children Exposed to
Violence to discuss and highlight best practices and to develop a National Action Plan to address
the vital needs of child crime victims and witnesses. The "Safe From The Start" Summit will
bring together experts in law enforcement, child development, policy, tribal justice, medicine,
mental health, domestic violence, education, and the media.
The Summit will conclude on Thursday, June 24 with a panel discussion at 11:30 am
moderated by Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder featuring Attorney General Janet Reno, HHS
Secretary Donna Shalala, FCC Chairman William Kennard, and Senator Edward Kennedy.
