STATEMENT BY ATTORNEY GENERAL JANET RENO
ON THE DEATH OF HARRY A. BLACKMUN
"I was very saddened to hear today that Justice Harry A. Blackmun has passed away. Justice Blackmun was a kind and a good man, a man of enormous integrity, great courage, strong compassion, and genuine humility. He was a great Justice.
"His work was characterized by deep concern about the effects of the Supreme Court's decisions on the lives of real people, including those who are the most vulnerable. He cared deeply about, and did much to advance, the rule of law. His legacy is a Nation that is much more fair and much more decent than it would have been without him.
"My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones."
