JUSTICE DEPARTMENT AWARDS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CONTRACTS
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Six companies were awarded contracts for Information Technology Support Services (ITSS), the Department of Justice announced today. The new contracts will succeed current ITSS contracts awarded in September 1996 which delivered nearly $200 million in information technology services to DOJ and other government agencies in the past two and one-half years. The new ITSS contracts were awarded to:
Computer Sciences Corporation of Rockville, Maryland
DynCorp Information & Enterprise Technology, Inc. of Fairfax, Virginia
Keane Federal Systems, Inc. of Rockville, Maryland
Lockheed Martin Service, Inc. of Cherry Hill, New Jersey
Logicon Information Systems & Services of Falls Church, Virginia
Pragmatics, Inc. of McLean, Virginia
The contracts, which were awarded on May 14, allow the winning contractors to bid on individual work requests initiated by DOJ components and other government agencies. In the past the value of the orders awarded by the ITSS program have ranged from $25,000 to over $30 million.
The work performed by ITSS contractors will range from simple data entry tasks to every element of the systems development life cycle, including requirements analysis, feasibility studies, the development, implementation and maintenance of information management systems, office automation system design, installation and management, major infrastructure upgrades, Year2000 support, independent verification and validation, and many other activities.
Except for a minimum guarantee of $50,000 worth of work, the contracts do not, by themselves, call for the contractors to perform any work for the government. Rather than being selected as a source of supply for any particular work, the ITSS contracts confer upon the winners what amounts to a license to compete for tasks that are generated by DOJ components and other government agencies. Although no specific work is projected by these awards, the ITSS program has proven successful in attracting work requests by offering government agencies a quick, convenient and economical way to satisfy their requirements.
In announcing the awards, Stephen R. Colgate, Assistant Attorney General for Administration, said, "The ITSS program has been built on competition. It is through competition that we believe that we can deliver the best value for our customers. Competition has been the hallmark of the ITSS program since its inception and will continue to be its hallmark during this latest iteration."
A new feature of this year's ITSS awards is the inclusion of a small business concern, Pragmatics, Inc.
