JOEL I. KLEIN ADDRESSES INTERNATIONAL ANTI-CARTEL ENFORCEMENT CONFERENCE Unprecedented Workshop Attended by Officials from More Than 25 Countries
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Joel I. Klein, Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Antitrust Division will address an International Anti-Cartel Enforcement Conference on Thursday, September 30 at 12:30 p.m., at the Westin Grand Hotel, 2350 M Street N.W., Washington, D.C. Klein will talk about the future of anti-cartel enforcement and international cooperation in our globalized economy.
The unprecedented international anti-cartel enforcement workshop, which will be attended by senior antitrust enforcement officials from more than 25 countries, is designed to identify "best practices" that can be brought to bear by competition authorities in the fight against cartels.
The two-day workshop, held on September 30 and October 1, will include topics such as: detecting, investigating and acting against cartels, including techniques for uncovering secret activities; and the types and levels of cooperation between competition authorities in different jurisdictions.

After Klein's speech, there will be a brief opportunity (20 minutes) to talk one-on-one with U.S. and foreign enforcement officials attending the workshop who desire to talk with the press.
