The Attorney General issued the following statement. "Gil Kerlikowske has been a dedicated leader as Deputy Director of the COPS office, and one of the Department of Justice's champions of community policing. Gil will bring strong leadership and nearly three decades of police and law enforcement experience to the city of Seattle. I commend Mayor Schell for his excellent choice. I am sorry to lose Gil from the Department, but delighted he has seized on the opportunity to serve the people of Seattle. I wish him well in all of his future endeavors. " ### 00-420
