ATTORNEY GENERAL STATEMENT REGARDING

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Attorney General John Ashcroft today issued the following statement regarding the execution of Timothy McVeigh:

• "Today's ruling by the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals is a ruling in favor of justice. The court could not have been more clear today in stating that McVeigh has 'utterly failed to demonstrate substantial grounds' for a further delay of his execution. Timothy McVeigh is responsible for the brutal murder of 168 people, including 19 children, and he will now be brought to justice.

• "I want to once again commend the Department of Justice legal team for their exemplary work during this appeals process. For the victims who have endured additional pain as a result of this last month of uncertainty, I am grateful this process will be over soon."
