ATTORNEY GENERAL ASHCROFT STATEMENT ON RETIREMENT

WASHINGTON, D.C. Attorney General John Ashcroft today issued the following statement regarding the retirement of FBI Director Louis Freeh:

• "I want to thank Louis Freeh for devoting 27 years of his life to public service. Louis is a model law enforcement officer: diligent, moral, judicious, and obedient to our Constitution. His commitment to excellence has enriched the FBI's heritage of thorough professionalism. His legacy of uncompromising integrity will endure throughout the FBI's ranks.
