DIRECTOR OF JUSTICE DEPARTMENT'S VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN OFFICE TO
       TOUR ABUSED WOMEN'S SHELTER IN LEWISTON ON WEDNESDAY

                Media Availability To Follow Tour

     Washington, DC -- Bonnie Campbell, in her first trip as
director of the Department of Justice's Violence Against Women
Office, will tour the Abused Women's Advocacy Project in
Lewiston, on Wednesday, April 19 at 10:00 am.  Congress is
currently considering cutting funds for the Crime Bill and its
Violence Against Women Act.
     Immediately following the tour, Ms. Campbell will be
available to field questions from the media.

     After her tour in Lewiston, Ms. Campbell will travel to
Bangor where she will participate in a 1:30 pm "Speak Out"
session at City Hall with victims of domestic violence.  Ms.
Campbell's visit to Maine is the second stop on a three state
tour that also includes Rhode Island and Vermont.
     The Violence Against Women Office was created to lead the
Administration's effort to implement the Violence Against Women
Act, along with the Department of Health and Human Services.  Ms.
Campbell oversees the Justice Department's efforts to combine new
federal criminal laws with assistance to states and localities to
fight violence against women.
