PELOFSKY NAMED U.S. TRUSTEE FOR REGION 13
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Joel Pelofsky, a former bankruptcy judge
in Missouri, was appointed United States Trustee for Region 13 by
Attorney General Janet Reno today.
Pelofsky, who assumes his duties March 6, will oversee the
administration of bankruptcy cases in Arkansas, Missouri and
Nebraska. The principal office for Region 13 is in Kansas City,
Missouri.
Throughout his entire professional career, Pelofsky has
practiced bankruptcy law to some degree. Since 1986, he has been
a partner with the firm of Shughart Thomson & Kilroy in Kansas
City, Missouri, where he headed the bankruptcy department. His
work with that firm has been principally on the behalf of debtors
in Chapters 11 and 12, but it has included representation of
creditors and committees as well.
From 1980 to 1985, Pelofsky served as a bankruptcy judge for
the Western District of Missouri, and, on an assigned basis, in
the Northern District of Iowa. Prior to that, he was a member of
the city council of Kansas City from 1971 to 1979, and served as
an assistant prosecuting attorney in Jackson County, Missouri,
from 1967 to 1970.
Pelofsky received his juris doctor in 1962 from Harvard Law
School and his bachelor's degree from Harvard College in 1959.
After graduation, he served in the United States Army from 1963
to 1965, where he was a member of the Civil Affairs Company.
Pelofsky has been a part time lecturer at the University of
Missouri Law School. Since 1973, he has been director of the
Truman Medical Center, a non-profit public hospital and, from
1988, a trustee of the Menorah Medical Center.
Pelofsky is married and has three children.
