AG RENO TO ANNOUNCE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT'S EFFORTS TO ENFORCE THE
                NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION ACT
                                
     WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Attorney General Janet Reno and
Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Deval L. Patrick will
make an announcement concerning the National Voter Registration
Act (NVRA) and the Justice Department's efforts to enforce
compliance among states. The event will take place on: 

               Monday, January 23, 1995
               1:00 PM
               Conference Room B
               Department of Justice
               10th and Constitution Ave., N.W.

     The NVRA, which was signed by President Clinton on May 1993,
makes it easier for people to register to vote.  States were
given until January 1 of this year to comply with the law's
requirements.
