NOTICE TO EDITORS AND CORRESPONDENTS
Frank Hunger, Assistant Attorney General in charge of the
Justice Department's Civil Division, and Division attorneys, will
be available at 2 p.m. today, June 6, in Conference Room B, Main
Justice, for an on-the-record, open to cameras briefing on a
settlement with a major tobacco company to remove cigarette
advertising signs from dozens of sports arenas and stadiums
across the country including, especially, New York, Atlanta, San
Francisco and New Orleans. Placement of the signs, within the
view of TV cameras, was allegedly intended to circumvent
Congress' 1971 ban on cigarette advertising on television.
Still photographs, in color, taken from TV coverage, will
be available to the news media, as well as the dates of specific
games for those who wish to retrieve videotape.
The news briefing is open to all federally credentialled
press. For further information, contact Gregory King at (202)
514-2008.
