                      NOTE TO CORRESPONDENTS


     WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Department of Justice has a copy of
the opinion in Lt. Paul G. Thomasson, USN, v. The Honorable
William J. Perry, Secretary of Defense, and The Honorable John H.
Dalton, Secretary of the Navy, in which Thomasson sought a
permanent injunction to prevent the Navy from discharging him or
removing him from active duty because of his statement that he is
a homosexual.  The court entered a judgment in favor of the
government and dismissed Thomasson's motion.  A copy of the
