  ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL LOIS SCHIFFER TO ATTEND CHICAGO PRESS 
CONFERENCE TO ANNOUNCE MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR TOXIC DUMPING SETTLEMENT

    ACTION AIMED AT PROTECTING WATER QUALITY OF LAKE MICHIGAN


     WASHINGTON -- Lois J. Schiffer, Assistant Attorney General
in charge of the Environment and Natural Resources Division, will
be in Chicago tomorrow to announce the settlement of a clean
water enforcement action involving a Chicago manufacturing
company.  Schiffer will join the Environmental Protection
Agency's Deputy Regional Administrator and representatives of
environmental and community groups for a morning press
conference.

      The press conference will be held on Thursday, November 9,
at 11:00 A.M. in Suite 900 of the Illinois Public Interest Group
Building located at 202 South State Street.
