1 Office of Justice Programs (OJP) 15_0402: 1) The BJA Byrne Competitive Solicitation closed at 8 pm on 4/27/09 and received 3,652 applications. 2) OJP made 20 State Recovery Act Byrne/JAG awards on 4/29/09 totaling $424.8 million. 3) The Director of OCOM participated in a Recovery Grant Workshop in NYC sponsored by Rep. Charles Rangel on 4/27/09. 4) OJP posted on its Recovery Act webpage guidance re which Recovery Act programs prohibit supplanting. OJP 15_0402: 1) OJP will continue to make State and Local Recovery Act Byrne/JAG awards on a rolling basis.
2 Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) 15_0411: 1) The Vice President announced the first OVW Recovery Act grant award to the Texas Council on Family Violence (TCFV) in Austin, TX on April 28, 2009. TCFV received a Recovery Act State Coalitions grant in the amount of $78,125. OVW Acting Director, Catherine Pierce attended the event, as well. The Vice President also announced two OVW FY 2009 awards to TCFV awards totaling $784,821. 2) The Recovery Act Technical Assistance Solicitation has been posted. The Solicitation will close on May 29, 2009. An email blast was sent out notifying the public about the funding opportunity. 3) OVW met with OJP to discuss the White House and Congressional notification process for Recovery Act awards and the challenges to making awards. OVW will have a follow up meeting to discuss the notification process. It is anticipated that the challenges to making awards will be remedied next week. 4) OVW staff is reviewing scores and conducting high risk assessments for applicants under the Recovery. OVW 15_0411: 1) Funding recommendations for RA awards will be made to the Acting Director over the next two weeks. 2) OVW continues to process Recovery Act awards. Currently, the State Coalitions awards are being processed. 3) 38 STOP Formula Grant awards, totaling approximately $97,000,000 should be ready for OMB notification next week.
3 OVW 15_0411 (continued): Act Tribal Coalitions, Tribal Governments and Transitional Housing grant programs. It is anticipated that risk assessments will not be complete for at least one week. 5) OVW Recovery Act performance measure was created. 6) OVW Recovery Plan information was entered into the PARTWeb.  
4 Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) 15_0412: 1) The COPS Office continues to review and evaluate CHRP applications to identify potential data errors. As of 5/1/09, 96% of the issues identified have been resolved. 2) COPS Office staff met with city officials from Elk Grove and Pasadena, California to brief them on the CHRP Program. COPS 15_0412: 1) Application vetting for the COPS Hiring Recovery Program (CHRP) will continue. The vetting deadline is May 11th. 2) Application review for data confirmation and validation of CHRP application continues. A second round of calls is scheduled to begin 5/1/09 and a final round of calls is scheduled for the week of May 11th.
5 Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) 15_0699: 1) ATF has obligated $925,160 for the purchase of vehicles through a Department of State contract. 2) ATF conducted one session for training for employees who are most likely to come in contact with lobbyists in the course of ATF’s usage of Recovery Act funds. 3) ATF conducted the ATF Special Agent exam in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico on April 27 and in Miami, Florida on May 1. Applicants who pass this exam will be in the pool used to hire new agents under the Recovery Act. ATF 15_0699: 1) ATF will conduct additional sessions for training for employees who are most likely to come in contact with lobbyists in the course of ATF’s usage of Recovery Act funds.
