OJP also made a number of discretionary awards: 4 ICAC Task Force Training and Technical Assistance awards; 12 Local Youth Mentoring Initiative awards. 3 OVC National Field-Generated Training & Technical Assistance and Demonstration Projects awards; 2 Rural Law Enforcement Assistance: Combating Rural Crime awards; and 2 Assistance for Law Enforcement Along the Southern Border & in HIDTA awards. 2) OJP staff met with members of the DOJ OIG staff to discuss the two Recovery Act programs (Byrne/JAG State and Local Formula Program and the Tribal Construction program) the OIG designated as high risk to the RATB. OJP staff expressed concern that the term of art “high risk” is being attached to programs. OJP uses specific criteria when labeling an individual grant or grantee as high risk. We believe using the term “high risk” will be viewed as derogatory by grantees, most of whom manage their grants responsibly. The report will be available for the first reporting period beginning October 1, 2009.
