EX-EMPLOYEES OF ANAHEIM MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES ASSN.
PLEAD GUILTY TO FEDERAL INCOME TAX VIOLATIONS
Two former employees of the Anaheim Municipal Employees Association
(AMEA) have pleaded guilty to federal income tax violations, United States
Attorney Alejandro N. Mayorkas announced today.
Appearing in federal court in Santa Ana on Monday morning, Gina
Hainline Beitler, 38, pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion. Meanwhile,
her step-daughter Jennifer Beitler, 28, pleaded guilty to one count of
failure to pay income taxes.
The Beitlers, both of whom reside in Anaheim, are scheduled to
be sentenced by United States District Judge David O. Carter on June 11.
The guilty pleas arose out of the defendants' failure to report
and pay taxes on all the income they received from AMEA between 1992 and
1994. Gina Hainline Beitler, who was an employee representative for AMEA,
admitted in court that she received a total of $185,908 from 1992 through
1994 that she failed to report to the Internal Revenue Service. Jennifer
Beitler, who worked as a secretary for AMEA, admitted receiving a total
of $87,525 in unreported income during this same period.
The total tax loss to the government for Gina Hainline Beitler
was approximately $52,000. The total tax loss for Jennifer Beitler was
approximately $23,000.
At sentencing, Gina Hainline Beitler faces a maximum sentence
of five years in prison, and Jennifer Beitler faces a maximum sentence
of one year in prison.
This case is the product of an investigation by the Criminal
Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service.
