ELIZABETH CITY - United States Attorney John Stuart Bruce announced that STEVEN A. ROEBUCK pled
guilty to income tax violations in federal court here on Wednesday, September 5, 2001.
ROEBUCK, a dentist located in Raleigh, N. C., changed his plea from "not guilty" to "guilty" mid-way through a jury trial. He pled guilty to two counts of failure to file a federal income tax return. He could receive a maximum sentence of two years imprisonment, a fine of $50,000.00, and a supervised release term of one year.
According to the two-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Raleigh on April 17, 2001, ROEBUCK failed to file federal income tax returns for the calendar years 1994 and 1995.
Chief U. S. District Judge Terrence W. Boyle accepted the guilty plea and will schedule sentencing at a later date.
Investigation of the case was conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service.
