Guy A. Lewis, United States Attorney
for the Southern District of Florida and José I. Marrero, Special Agent
in Charge, Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, announced today that
Joseph Fanfan, Jr., M.D., entered a guilty plea before United States District
Court Judge Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr., to a four-count Criminal Indictment charging
him with failing to file Federal income tax returns for the years 1994, 1995,
1996, and 1997, in violation of Title 26, United States Code, Section 7203.
Dr. Fanfan was indicted by a federal
grand jury on October 11, 2001. As alleged in the Indictment, Dr. Fanfan earned
gross income of approximately $150,956; $199,306; $221,005; and $266,452; respectively,
during the years 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997, and failed to file income tax returns
reporting that income to the Internal Revenue Service.
Dr. Fanfan faces a maximum term
of four years' imprisonment and a maximum fine of $400,000.
