WALTHAM MAN CHARGED
WITH FILING FALSE TAX RETURN
Boston, MA... A Waltham man was charged today in federal court with filing a false corporate tax return which included false expenses.
United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan and Michael P. Lahey, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation, announced today that MARTIN J. HANLEY, age 51, of 115 Parkview Rd., Waltham, Massachusetts, was charged in a criminal information with one count of filing a false tax return.
The information alleges that in the U.S. Corporate Income Tax Return, Form 1120, which HANLEY filed for Hanley Moving & Storage, Inc. for the tax year 1996, HANLEY reported false expenses for salaries, wages and insurance totaling approximately $82,200.
If convicted on this charge, HANLEY faces up to 3 years' imprisonment, to be followed by one year of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark J. Balthazard in Sullivan's Economic Crimes Unit.
