LAUREL MAN INDICTED ON TAX PERJURY CHARGES

Greenbelt - Thomas M. DiBiagio, the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, Vicki S. Duane, Special Agent in Charge of the Internal Revenue Service (Criminal Investigation) and Gregory Friedman, Inspector General, Department of Energy announced today that a federal grand jury in Greenbelt Maryland returned felony income tax charges against Thomas C. Clark, age 58, of Old Line Avenue, Laurel, Maryland.

Clark, a maintenance mechanic/general foreman with the Department of Energy, was charged with four counts of Filing False Income Tax Returns stemming from his failure to report approximately $90,000 in income between 1995 and 1998. The maximum term of imprisonment for each count of filing a false income tax return is three years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.

An indictment is a finding by a federal grand jury that there is probable cause to believe that the crimes charged therein were committed. An indictment is merely an accusation and Mr. Clark is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. This case was investigated by Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sandra Wilkinson.
