GOODLETTSVILLE BUSINESSMAN PLEADS GUILTY

TO FILING FALSE TAX RETURNS

Nashville, Tennessee - February 11, 2003 - James K. Vines, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee, announced that Ronald W. Greer of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, pled guilty before U.S. District Judge Todd J. Campbell to two counts of filing false tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service.

IRS-Criminal Investigation Special Agent John W. Thompson testified during the plea hearing that Greer, a self-employed electrician, filed false tax returns for 1995 and 1996. According to the testimony, Greer underreported income from his electrical business by at least $84,000 on his 1995 return and by at least $77,000 on his 1996 return, resulting in a tax loss to the government totaling at least $51,000. Greer faces a maximum of three years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 on each charge when he is sentenced on May 5, 2003.

This investigation was conducted by IRS Criminal Investigation. U.S. Department of Justice-Tax Division Trial Attorney Patrick M. Pericak prosecuted the case for the government.
