WESTPORT MAN SENTENCED TO 22 MONTHS IN PRISON
United States Attorney Kevin J. O'Connor announced today that WILLIAM
A. TRUDEAU, JR., age 40 of 5 Pritchard Lane, Westport, Connecticut, was
sentenced today to a term of 22 months imprisonment and payment of $458,312
in restitution, following his plea of guilty to federal tax and financial
fraud offenses.
The United States Attorney noted that TRUDEAU previously entered a plea
of guilty on February 22, 2001, to one count of unlawfully failing to
account for and pay over employee trust fund taxes (e.g., Social Security
and Medicare taxes), and to one count of wire fraud. In connection with
his plea of guilty, TRUDEAU admitted that he had failed to account for
and pay over $232,030 to the Internal Revenue Service in trust fund taxes
for employees working at businesses that he operated from 1993 to 1997.
TRUDEAU further admitted to engaging in ten fraudulent loan and lease
transactions during 1999 in connection with the purchase of multiple real
properties, cars and computer equipment.
In sentencing proceedings today before Chief United States District Judge
Robert N. Chatigny at the federal courthouse in Hartford, TRUDEAU was
sentenced to a term of 22 months imprisonment, to be followed by a term
of 3 years of supervised release. Chief Judge Chatigny also imposed a
criminal fine of $25,000 and ordered TRUDEAU to pay restitution of $458,312
to victims of his financial frauds.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jeffrey A.
Meyer. The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service/Criminal
Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
