Nancy Bergeson pled guilty to one count of failing to file a tax return for calendar year 1996. She entered her plea before U.S. Magistrate Judge Janie Mayeron in Minneapolis.
In addition to pleading guilty to failing to file a tax return for 1996, Bergeson also admitted in court that she failed to file federal personal income tax returns for calendar years 1997, 1998, and 1999. She admitted in court that she failed to report on tax returns approximately $66,000 in income for 1996; approximately $60,000 in income for 1997; approximately $32,500 in income for 1997; and approximately $14,085 in income for 1999.
Bergeson faces a maximum potential penalty of one year in prison and/or a $25,000 fine. The actual sentence will be determined by Magistrate Judge Mayeron based on the federal sentencing guidelines. A sentencing date has not been set.
The case is the result of an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Susan Burke.
