Tax Preparer Sentenced to 21 Months Imprisonment
on Federal Tax Charge

United States Attorney Jane J. Boyle announced that Fort Worth, Texas, resident, Everett Charles Hinson, was sentenced today by the Honorable United States District Judge Sam A. Lindsay, to 21 months imprisonment and ordered to pay $357,113 restitution to the Internal Revenue Service. Hinson, age 42, pled guilty in June to one count of an indictment charging him with aiding or assisting in the preparation of false tax returns, in violation of 26 U.S.C. § 7206(2). Hinson was ordered to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons on October 21, 2003.

Charles Hinson was employed as a tax return preparer from February 1998 through February 2000. He admitted in court documents that on numerous occasions he willfully prepared tax returns he knew to be fraudulent by representing that taxpayers were entitled to claim deductions for vehicle expenses for miles driven commuting to work, when he well knew that the taxpayer was not entitled to claim the deductions.

United States Attorney Boyle commended the investigative efforts of the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI), Dallas Field Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lynn Hastings.
