BYRONS SENTENCED FOR CONSPIRACY TO FILE FALSE TAX RETURNS

BIRMINGHAM, AL - United States Attorney Alice H. Martin of the Northern District of Alabama and C. Andre Martin, Special Agent in Charge of the Internal Revenue Service, announce that TRACY RENAY BYRON and REGINALD DEWAYNE BYRON were sentenced today on their March 3, 2003, convictions for conspiracy to defraud the United States by filing false tax returns.

TRACY RENAY BYRON, 29, of Birmingham, Alabama was sentenced by United States District Judge C. Lynwood Smith, Jr. to 33 months in prison, was ordered to pay restitution of $79,479, and was given 3 years supervised release after the prison term is served.

REGINALD DEWAYNE BYRON, 32, of Birmingham, Alabama was sentenced by United States District Judge C. Lynwood Smith, Jr. to 51 months in prison, was ordered to pay restitution of $27,557, and was given 3 years supervised release after the prison term is served.

"The sentences imposed in this case clearly show that there is no tolerance for those individuals who attempt to defraud the United States by filing false tax returns," said U.S. Attorney Alice H. Martin.

This case was investigated by special agents of the Internal Revenue Service and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney George A. Martin, Jr.
