DEFENDANT
SENTENCED FOR MAKING FALSE CLAIMS TO IRS
Marcos Daniel Jiménez,
United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and Brian Wimpling,
Special Agent in Charge, Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation
Division, announced on Friday, June 18, 2004, that United States District
Court Judge Federico Moreno sentenced defendant, Lauda Mojica, on eight separate
counts of making false claims to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in violation
of Title 18, United States Code, Section 286. Mojica was sentenced to a term
of forty-one (41) months imprisonment, to be followed by three (3) years
of supervised release. In addition, Mojica was ordered to pay restitution
in the amount of $6,237, a $6,000 fine, and a $800 special assessment.
Mr. Jiménez commended the investigative efforts of the Internal Revenue
Service, Criminal Investigation. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United
States Attorneys Richard Boscovich and Angel Cortinas.
