January 14, 2004- United States Attorney Patrick L. Meehan today announced the filing of a three count information* charging Susan J. Case with one count of bank embezzlement, in violation of Title 18, U.S.C., Section 657; one count of false federal credit institution entry, in violation of Title 18 U.S.C. Section 1006; and one count of filing false tax return, in violation of Title 26 U.S.C. 7206.

The Information alleges that the defendant, a former manager of the Padua Federal Credit Union, 825 Lehigh Street, Easton, Pennsylvania, embezzled from the credit union approximately $182,790 between September 1994 and December 2000. Opened in 1956, the credit union provided banking and financial services to approximately 1,000 parishioners of Catholic churches in the Easton, Pennsylvania vicinity. It was involuntarily liquidated on June 29, 2001 by the National Credit Union Administration due to insolvency. It is further charged in the Information that Case filed a false tax return in 1999 when she failed to report as income approximately $46,800 in money stolen from the credit union in tax year 1998. The Information further alleges that Case submitted false annual audit reports to the credit union board of directors which presented false information relating to the financial condition of the credit union and falsely represented that the audits had been conducted by a certified public accountant.

If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum imprisonment sentence of 63 years imprisonment, and a $2,250,000 fine.
