Woman Charged with Failure to File Income Tax Returns United States Attorney Jane J. Boyle announced that a federal grand jury in Dallas returned an indictment earlier this month charging Rowena Jenkins Daniels, of Carrollton, Texas, with four counts of failure to file federal income tax returns. Daniels surrendered to federal authorities on Monday and appeared before the Honorable Paul D. Stickney, United States Magistrate Judge, who released her on a personal recognizance bond. Her arraignment is set for April 28, 2004, before the Honorable Barbara M.G. Lynn, United States District Judge. The indictment states that
Daniels had gross income of at least $170,420.00 in 1997; at least $186,574.00
in 1998; at least $67,656.00 in 1999; and at least $40,090.00 in 2000.
The indictment charges that she failed to file income tax returns for
any of those four years, in violation of 26 U.S.C. § 7203. If convicted
on all four counts of the indictment, she faces a maximum statutory sentence
of four years imprisonment and a $400,000 fine. U.S. Attorney Boyle acknowledged and praised the investigative efforts of the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation and Department of Justice Tax Division. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Floyd Clardy and DOJ Tax Division Attorney Robert Kemins.
