Carrollton Lawyer Pleads Guilty to
Failing to File Income Tax Returns


United States Attorney Jane J. Boyle announced that Rowena Jenkins Daniels, of Carrollton, Texas, pled guilty today before the Honorable Barbara M.G. Lynn, United States District Judge, to two counts of failure to file federal income tax returns, in violation of 26 U.S.C. § 7203. Daniels faces a maximum sentence of two years imprisonment, a $200,000 fine and restitution. Her sentencing date has been set for September 17, 2004.

According to documents filed in court, Daniels, a lawyer, admitted that she had gross income of at least $186,574.00 in 1998 and at least $67,656.00 in 1999. She admitted that she failed to file income tax returns for either of those two years.

U.S. Attorney Boyle acknowledged and praised the investigative efforts of the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation and Department of Justice Tax Division. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Floyd Clardy and DOJ Tax Division Attorney Robert Kemins.
