LAWYER SENTENCED TO United States Attorney Richard B. Roper announced that Carrollton, Texas, resident, Rowena Jenkins Daniels, age 44, was sentenced yesterday by the Honorable Barbara M.G. Lynn, United States District Judge, to 180 days home confinement and ordered to pay restitution to the Internal Revenue Service. In June, Daniels pled guilty to two counts of failure to file federal income tax returns, in violation of 26 U.S.C. § 7203. According to documents filed in court, Daniels, a lawyer, admitted that she had gross income of at least $186,574.00 in 1998 and at least $67,656.00 in 1999. She admitted that she failed to file income tax returns for either of those two years. U.S. Attorney Roper praised the investigative efforts of the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation and Department of Justice Tax Division. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Floyd Clardy and DOJ Tax Division Attorney Robert Kemins. # # # |
