TAX CASE GETS SELMA MAN 15 MONTHS

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Alice H. Martin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, and James D. Vickery, Special Agent in Charge, Internal Revenue Service, announce that RONALD TERRY REGAN, 61, of Selma, Alabama, was sentenced yesterday by United States District Judge U.W. Clemon, on charges of making a false statement on his 1997 federal income tax return.

According to U.S. Attorney Alice H. Martin, REGAN was sentenced to 15 months in prison and was ordered to serve one year supervised release at the completion of his prison sentence. On February 18, 2004, REGAN plead guilty to diverting $169,042 of his employer’s funds to pay personal expenses. REGAN only reported $35,440 of these funds on his federal income tax return.

“On April 15th, every citizen is expected to pay to the government his fair share of taxable income. Those individuals who seek to circumvent the tax laws will be discovered in time and prosecuted for those violations,” stated Alice Martin.

This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Internal Revenue Service.
Assistant United States Attorney Herbert H. Henry and attorneys from the Tax Division, US Department of Justice prosecuted the case.
