VIVIAN WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY TO TAX CHARGES

Shreveport, Louisiana . . .  PEGGY F. ANGLE, age 61, of Vivian, pled guilty today to a one count bill of information charging her with filing a false tax return for tax year 2000, United States Attorney Donald W. Washington announced.  Sentencing has been scheduled for May 6, 2004.

Between 1997 and 2000, ANGLE, while employed as a secretary and bookkeeper for a local church, embezzled $117,325.  The embezzled funds were not reported as income on ANGLE’s 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000 personal income tax returns.   Based on this unreported income, ANGLE should have paid $26,509 in additional federal income taxes for those tax years.

ANGLE faces a maximum sentence of 3 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both.  Sentencing in federal court is governed by the United States Sentencing Guidelines.  Parole has been abolished in the federal system.

This case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation, Shreveport Division, and the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney C. Mignonne Griffing.
