PATRICIA LEILANI BRUNSON, age 42, was sentenced by Chief United States District Judge David A. Ezra yesterday to eight months imprisonment for assisting in the preparation of false federal income tax returns. BRUNSON, a tax preparer, pled guilty to all 29 counts in two indictments which charged her with committing the offenses in Hawaii over a three-year period from 1996 to 1998.

Edward H. Kubo, Jr., United States Attorney for the District of Hawaii, said that according to information produced in court in connection with the case, BRUNSON prepared returns for individuals that included incorrect filing status resulting in an earned income credit and false expense claims. None of the individuals have been charged with any offenses in connection with the filings.

The case was the result of an investigation conducted by the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division. The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Leslie E. Osborne, Jr.
