Edward H. Kubo, Jr., United States Attorney for the District of Hawaii, announced that a federal grand jury returned an indictment yesterday charging Stephen B. Wilson, a resident of Honolulu, Hawaii, with tax evasion for the years 1998 and 1999. According to the indictment, Wilson under reported his taxable income by over $563,000 during the two year period and evaded taxes totaling over $215,000. According to the indictment, Wilson reported to the Internal Revenue Service a total of $73,431.63 in taxable income for those years. Wilson faces a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine as to each of the counts if convicted.
United States Attorney Kubo cautioned that an indictment is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
This indictment was a result of an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Leslie E. Osborne, Jr.
