ANSONIA WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FAILING TO FILE FEDERAL INCOME TAX RETURN

Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that MAUREEN CLARK, age 50, of 11 Hodge Avenue, Ansonia, Connecticut, pleaded guilty today to wilfully failing to file her federal income return for the 1999 calendar year. United States Magistrate Judge Joan G. Margolis accepted CLARK’s plea of guilty this morning in New Haven federal court.

CLARK today admitted that, in 1999, she received income in excess of $2,750, and that based on this gross income she was required by law, following the close of the calendar year, and on or before April 15, 2000, to make an income tax return with the Internal Revenue Service setting forth the items of her gross income and any deductions and credits to which she was entitled. CLARK further acknowledged that although she had over $44,000 in gross income that year, she failed to file a federal tax return.

When she is sentenced by United States District Judge on April 4, 2005, CLARK faces up to one year of imprisonment and a fine of up to $100,000.

This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney James G. Genco.
