March 28, 2005 Daniel Monroe Byrd, Sr.
United States Attorney David R. Dugas announced that DANIEL MONROE BYRD, SR.,
age 62, a resident of Baton Rouge, was charged today in a Bill of Information
with failure to file an income tax return.
The Bill of Information charges that during calender year 2000, BYRD received
gross income of approximately $450,000, and that BYRD knowingly and willfully
failed to file an income tax return for the year 2000 with the Internal Revenue
Service or any proper officer of the United States.
BYRD could receive a maximum sentence of imprisonment of one year, a fine of
up to $100,000, or both, if convicted. The court may also order restitution
in accordance with law.
The case was investigated by the Baton Rouge Office of the Internal Revenue
Service, Criminal Investigation Division, and is being prosecuted by Assistant
United States Attorney Ian F. Hipwell.
NOTE: A bill of information is merely an accusation by the United States Attorney
that an offense has been committed by the defendant. The defendant, of course,
is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty at trial.
