FORMER DANVERS RESIDENT ARRAIGNED
ON TAX CHARGES
Boston, MA... A former resident of Danvers, Massachusetts was arraigned on Thursday, August 11, 2005, on federal charges of filing false income tax returns.
United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan, Assistant Attorney General Eileen J. O'Connor, and Joseph A. Galasso, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation, announced that NADINE J. GRIFFIN, age 44, a former resident of Danvers, Massachusetts, now residing in Florida, was arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge Joyce London Alexander on a two-count Indictment charging her with filing false income tax returns for the years 1998 and 1999. The Indictment was returned by a federal Grand Jury on July 13, 2005.
According to the Indictment, GRIFFIN was a salesperson for an organization called Global Prosperity, which was in the business of selling a 12-part audiotape/compact disc series, as well as tickets to offshore seminars located in such places as Aruba and Cancun, Mexico. As a salesperson for Global Prosperity, GRIFFIN is alleged to have sold the audiotape/compact series, which retailed for $1,250 per series, as well as the tickets to the offshore seminars, which ranged in price from $6,250 per ticket to $18,750 per ticket. GRIFFIN allegedly failed to report the gross commission sales receipts from her business activity as a salesperson for Global Prosperity on the tax returns.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation. It is being prosecuted by Trial Attorney Christopher J. Maietta in the U.S. Department of Justice's Tax Division.
The details contained in the Indictment are allegations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
