Man sentenced for filing false tax
returns
United States Attorney John L. Brownlee announced today that Noel Hull,
age 60 , of Doe Hill, Virginia, pled guilty to a one count information
charging him with filing a false tax return.
The plea was entered pursuant to a plea agreement.
From 1994 - 2000, Noel Hull operated a business selling timber to several
companies. While some of the checks were deposited, others were cashed
or converted into certificates of deposit, making it difficult for auditors
to determine how much income Hull had made each year.
Hull's tax returns for the years 1994-2000 under reported his gross
income by $1,275,750.
Hull was sentenced to 14 months in prison and one year supervised release.
The case was investigated by the IRS.
Assistant United States Attorney C. Patrick Hogeboom III prosecuted
the case.
