FORMER DIRECTOR OF VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM PLEADS GUILTY TO POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
BIRMINGHAM - The former director of a Birmingham-area vocational training and support services organization for people with disabilities pleaded guilty today in federal court to possessing child pornography, U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance announced.
JAMES EVERETT CRIM III, 64, former executive director of WorkShops, Inc., pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge R. David Proctor to the one-count indictment returned in late December. In his plea agreement, CRIM admitted to sexual contact with a mentally handicapped woman, as well as to possessing pornographic images of a 12-year-old girl. The images were contained on a laptop computer CRIM possessed.
Crim resigned from WorkShops, Inc., in early December. The mentally handicapped woman referred to in his plea agreement was not a participant in the WorkShops program.
The maximum sentence for possessing child pornography is 10 years and a $250,000 fine.
The Mountain Brook Police Department and special agents of the U.S. Secret Service investigated the case, which is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura D. Hodge.
