Tuscaloosa Bank Robber Indicted In Federal Court

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 1, 2011

BIRMINGHAM – A federal grand jury today indicted an Adger woman for two July bank robberies, announced U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance and FBI Special Agent in Charge Patrick J. Maley.

The two-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court charges SHERRY SIMMONS ETHRIDGE, 44, with robbing the Regions Bank in Brookwood on July 19 and The Bank of Tuscaloosa on July 29. Both counts charge that she robbed the banks by use of force and violence and by intimidation.

The maximum sentence for each robbery charge is 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The FBI and the Tuscaloosa Police Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney L. James Weil Jr. is prosecuting this case.

Members of the public are reminded that the indictment contains only charges. A defendant is presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government’s burden to prove a defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
