PRIOR CHILD MOLESTATION CONVICTION BRINGS 10-YEAR TERM TO VENTURA COUNTY MAN IN CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE

An Oxnard man who was arrested last year as part of a widespread investigation into the exchange of child pornography on the Internet has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for possessing child pornography.

George Tyler Farmer, 39, who was previously convicted of molesting a 6-year-old girl, was sentenced Monday afternoon by United States District Judge George H. Wu in Los Angeles. Farmer faced a mandatory 10-year prison term because of the prior conviction in a child exploitation case.

Farmer, who was convicted of molesting a Ventura County girl in 1987, pleaded guilty in federal court in November 2008 to one count of possession of child pornography. The case resulted from a search warrant executed at Farmer’s Oxnard apartment on April 23, 2008. During that search, investigators with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department found still images and videos “at the outermost extreme of child pornography,” according to the government’s sentencing memorandum. “These images include graphic recordings of very young children – some as little as 2 or 3 years old – being raped by adult men.”

After he finishes his federal prison sentence, Farmer will be required to register as a sex offender, and he will be on supervised release for 20 years.
