DAVENPORT, IA – On March 1, 2012, Jose Juan Serrato Esquivel, age 37, of Muscatine, Iowa, having previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute at least 5 kilograms of cocaine, was sentenced by Chief Judge James E. Gritzner of the United States District Court to serve a term of imprisonment of 70 months, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. Chief Judge Gritzner also sentenced Serrato to serve five years supervised release following imprisonment, pay $100 to the Crime Victims Fund, and to forfeit $7, 319.56.

During the summer of 2011, the Muscatine Drug Task Force received information that Serrato was involved in the distribution of cocaine. Police conducted a series of purchases of cocaine from Serrato, buying a total of one-half kilogram of cocaine. During a subsequent search of his home, police seized cash and drug paraphernalia. Further investigation revealed that since 2008, Serrato was responsible for distributing at least six kilograms of cocaine in the Muscatine area.

This case was investigated by the Muscatine Drug Task Force, and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration. It was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
