ILLEGAL ALIEN SENTENCED TO OVER 3 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON
VICTOR MANUEL GONZALEZ-HIDALGO, age 43, a resident of Mexico, was sentenced today in federal court by visiting U. S. District Judge Frederic Block of the Eastern District of New York to thirty-seven (37) months imprisonment, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten. In addition, Judge Block ordered that GONZALEZ-HIDALGO be placed on three (3) years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment, during which time the defendant will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of his supervised release.
According to court documents, on October 7, 2009, GONZALEZ-HIDALGO pled guilty to one count of an indictment admitting he was an alien who had previously been deported and that he was found in the United States in St. Bernard Parish without the proper consent. GONZALEZ-HIDALGO’s sentence was subject to an enhancement based on a previous felony conviction.
The case was investigated by the U. S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Robert Weir.
